Nikki Haley did not directly address the cause of the Civil War, however, she did discuss the importance of learning from the events of the Civil War. In a 2017 speech to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, she said, “My hope is that, as we look back on the events of 1861 to 1865, that we reflect on what we can learn from our past, so that we can move forward together, a stronger United States of America.”
